VMI and other Christian Publishers, Authors and Industry Partners Respond to Haitian Crisis and Mobilize for Significant Relief Efforts

(Taken from the January 27, 2010 release by the ECPA)

Phoenix, Arizona—Though one may think that book publishing and the problems in Haiti are not directly connected, many ECPA member companies and authors in the Christian publishing industry have important humanitarian ministries and significant ties to Haiti and are now strategically involved in relief efforts.

VMI Publishers [Deep River Books] is sponsoring a trauma team on their way to Haiti in U.S. government planes, with medical supplies and doctors.  CEO Bill Carmichael is on the board of Assist International, a relief organization involved with mobilizing teams and support for Haiti.

Several other companies in the industry have immediately responded with aid.

“It is evident that the Christian publishing industry, which is about spreading the Good News of Christ, has also put tangible ‘hands and feet’ to their callings by being on the front lines of response and ministry to the Haitian people,”  states the industry’s association President Mark Kuyper of the Evangelical Christian Publishing Association. "This is only a snapshot as we know there are many more stories of involvement from companies and authors in our industry."
